Engineering as a Career:

Engineering is one of the most popular career options in India. Every year lakhs of candidates appearing for various engineering entrance exams, the competition is getting tougher year by year. Mostly Engineering Entrance Examinations are conducted at the UG (undergraduate) level. Out of these some engineering entrance exams are conducted at the National level while others are held at the state and a few of them at institutional level also. Candidates have a lot of choice according to their interest, preparation and career options to choose institute through more than 50 engineering entrance exams.

JEE Main is the first choice of all engineering aspirants who wants to study in top engineering college of India, such that IITs, NITs, IIITs and CFTIs. The first stage of the JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) called JEE-Main is screening test for admission in IITs, along with it is also provide ranking for admission in NIITs; after go through the second stage of JEE called JEE-Advanced one can get admission in world’s top engineering collages of IITs. This national level exam is one of the most competitive exams of India, with more than 10 lakh students appearing for it every year.

The other exams in the list of top engineering entrance exams in India are BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE, COMEDK, etc. Overall, most engineering aspirants appear for more than one exam in an academic session.

We here share details of various engineering exams to be held in India at national level university level and institute level.

 

JEE – Main

1. JEE Main:

Joint Entrance Exam Main commonly known as JEE Main is the entrance test for admissions to the undergraduate engineering, architecture and planning programmes offered by 31 National Institutes of Technology (NIT), 25 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) and 28 Government Funded Technical Institutes (CFTI) including the Schools of Planning and Architecture. JEE-Main is also the screening test for students to appear for the JEE Advanced which is the entrance test for admissions to the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology.

The JEE (Main)-2020 will be conducted twice before admissions in an academic session.

Qualifying Exam: Candidates must qualify their 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized central/ State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi; etc.

Or Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.

Or Final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy (NDA)

Passing Marks: There is no prescribed percentage to appear in the examination. Candidates having passing marks can also apply. No board marks will be taken into account for calculating JEE Main score from the year 2018 onwards.

Eligibility for Admission in NITs, IIITs and CFTIs: For admission to candidates should secure minimum 75% marks (65% for SC/ST students) in the qualifying examination or must be in top 20 percentile in class 12th examination conducted by respective boards.

JEE – Advanced

2. JEE Advanced:

JEE Advanced is a national-level entrance exam conducted to facilitate admissions to the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and a few other colleges. JEE Advanced is the second stage of entrance test after clear first stage of JEE Main; for the students who are willing to seek admission to IITs.

JEE Advanced is conducted every by either of the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) namely IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee or Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB).

Every year, around 14-15 lakhs students appear for JEE Main. Candidates who clear JEE Main 2020 (Paper 1) and appear in the list of top 2,50,000 will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2020 examination.

JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria:

a) Performance in JEE Main 2020

Candidates who grab the rank among the top 2,50,000 candidates in JEE Main 2020 across all categories are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Out of this number, the percentage of candidates eligible for admissions under different categories are as follows:

       General category candidates (from the common merit list) – 46.5%

       General EWS - 4%

       OBC-NCL candidates – 27%

       SC candidates – 15%

       ST candidates – 7.5%

       PWD candidates - Horizontal reservation of 5% in all the above categories

b) Score

Aspirants who will qualify JEE Advanced 2020 exam have to fulfill at least one of the given below criteria

       Candidates must have secured a minimum of 75% aggregate marks in Class XII (or equivalent) board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PWD marks should be at least 65%

       Candidates should be within category-wise Top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.

BITSAT – B.E.

3. BITSAT 2020:

 

BITSAT 2020 is an online entrance exam conducted by Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani, for admissions to undergraduate engineering courses at its three campuses. Admission will be offered to the candidates into BE, BPharm and MSc programmes after qualifying this admission test.

Admissions to all the Integrated First-Degree programmes of BITS, Pilani, at Pilani campus, Goa campus, and Hyderabad Campus for the academic year 2020-21 will be made on the basis of a Computer based Online Test conducted by BITS, Pilani. This test is called ‘BITS Admission Test – 2020’, in short as BITSAT 2020.

BITSAT-2020 is online / CBT; ‘Computer Based Online test’ means the candidate sits in front of a computer and the questions are presented on the computer monitor and the candidate answers the questions on the computer through the use of keyboard or mouse.

Eligibility Criteria:

(i) B. E.: Candidates should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and adequate proficiency in English.

(ii) B. Pharm.: Candidates should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology and adequate proficiency in English. However, candidates with PCM may also apply for Pharmacy program.

VITEEE – B.E.

4. VITEEE:

VITEEE is a university-level engineering entrance exam conducted by Vellore Institute of Technology for admission to B.Tech and B.Des program offered at VIT Vellore, VIT Chennai, VIT Bhopal and VIT-AP.

The exam is held at all India level in 124 cities and is open for 10+2 appearing / passed out candidates who fulfill eligibility criteria. In VITEEE 2020, there are 10 questions of Aptitude in the exam, along with 40 MCQs on Maths / Bio, 35 each on Physics and Chemistry, and 5 on English.

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is one of the most popular choices among the engineering students, and thus VITEEE witnesses around 3 lakh registrations every year.

Qualifying Examination: The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi), The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE), New Delhi.

COMEDK

5. COMEDK:

COMEDK is the “Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka” – an autonomous institution. This autonomous COMEDK was entrusted the responsibility to organize testing procedures to determine the merit of aspiring students in an effective, fair, transparent and non-exploitative procedure by KPCF (Karnataka Professional Colleges Foundation – Medical & Dental) and KUPECA (Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association). By this, COMEDK has been serving 16 Medical, 24 Dental and around 190 Engineering Colleges.

COMEDK -2020 Eligibility Criteria:

UG Engineering Courses:

a) The qualifying examinations prescribed for admission for B.E. is second PUC or 10+2 Higher Secondary or equivalent examination recognized by State / Central Government; the last two years of study shall comprise of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with English as a compulsory subject.

b) The General Merit candidates should have passed with a minimum aggregate of 45% marks (40% in respect of SC, ST and OBC candidates of Karnataka State) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and should have passed these subjects individually. Physics and Mathematics are compulsory subjects along with Chemistry or Bio Technology or Biology or Computer Science or Electronics as one of the optional subjects. However, changes, if any, in the eligibility criteria by the AICTE will be adopted.

KIITEE

6. KIITEE:

Kalinga institute of Technology (KIIT) Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar is among India’s most sought-after universities. It has also entered QS BRICS and India University Ranking. KIIT Deemed to be University in entire Eastern India. KIIT has been ranked 2nd among self-financing institutions of India by the Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India in Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA). KIITEE 2020 will be conducted by KIIT University for admission to various undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) courses.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

B.Tech. (4years)/ B.Tech & M.Tech. (Dual Degree)  Biotechnology(5years):-                                                                        

Candidates applying for B.Tech.(4years), B.Tech & M.Tech. (Dual Degree) (Biotechnology) Course should fulfill the following criteria.

I. Candidates who have passed 10+2 examination in 2018, 2019 or appearing in 10+2 examination in 2020 are only eligible to apply for B.Tech (4 years), B.Tech & M.Tech. (Dual Degree) (Biotechnology) course of the University.

II. Should have studied in regular full-time formal education in their schooling / college.

III. Pass in 10 +2 or its equivalent with at least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics taken together.

SRMJEEE

7. SRMJEEE:

SRM University - SRMJEEE 2020 - It is a university level entrance exam conducted by SRM University to get admissions in engineering courses. It is a common entrance examination for all SRM Group Universities. SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), formerly known as SRM University will conduct the SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Examination (JEEE) for admission in various specializations of B.Tech. programme. Candidate can appear for SRMJEEE only through CBT-online mode.

Qualifying Exam:

I. A Pass in Higher Secondary examination (10+2 pattern) or appearing for Higher Secondary examination in the current academic year with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics / Biology / Botany & Zoology / Biotechnology as major subjects in the full-time stream from any State Board, CBSE, ICSE, Matriculation   or NIOS.

II. International Baccalaureate (IB) with Diploma, or an A-level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / Biology / Botany & Zoology / Biotechnology as major subjects from any international school.

III. Candidates who have completed both 10th Standard as well as 12th Standard in NIOS, are not considered for admission to any programme of SRM.
