Indian Navy (Nausena Bharti) has released a notification and applications are invited from unmarried eligible men & women candidates for grant of Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC) in under-mentioned branches/entries in the Indian Navy for Course commencing June 2020 at Indian Naval Academy (INA) Ezhimala, Kerala.

Call up for SSB:
Selection Procedure:
a) Ministry of Defence (Navy) reserves the right to short-list applications and to fix cut off percentage. No communication will be entertained on this account.
(b) SSB interviews for short-listed candidates will be scheduled at Bangalore for pilot & observer candidates and at Bangalore /Bhopal/ Coimbatore/Visakhapatnam/Kolkata for other branches/ entries. Shortlisted candidates will be informed about their selection for SSB interview on their e-mail or through SMS (provided by candidates in their application form).
(c) The total duration of SSB interviews is five days consisting of stage I (Day one) and stage II (Four days).
Stage I Tests:
Stage I Tests consist of Intelligence Tests, Picture Perception and Group Discussion Tests. Candidates who fail to qualify in Stage I will be sent back on the same day from SSB Centre.
Stage II Tests:
Stage II Tests consists of Psychological Tests, Group Task Tests and Interview. Successful candidates will undergo medical examination (approx 3-5 days).
(d) Candidates of Pilot entry are required to undergo PABT (Pilot aptitude battery test) followed by Aviation medical examination. Candidates of Observer entry are also required to undergo Aviation medical examination.
(e) Candidates recommended by the SSBs, cleared PABT (for Pilot Entry) and declared medically fit will be appointed for training based on merit list and vacancies available.
Note:
(i) Change of SSB Centre for interview is not permissible under any circumstances.
(ii) Any correspondence regarding change of SSB dates be addressed to the President of the SSB on receipt of call up letter.
(iii) No compensation will be paid in respect of any injury sustained to a candidate during SSB tests.
(iv) Return First Class (AC III Tier/AC Chair Car) rail fare is admissible for the SSB interview, if appearing for the first time for this Commission on production of railway ticket. Candidates are to carry photocopy of the first page of pass book or cheque leaf where the name, A/C No & IFSC details are mentioned, while appearing for SSB.

Pay Scale and Promotions:
Tenure of Commission:
(a) Short Service Commission Granted initially for 10 years extendable by maximum 04 years in 02 terms (02 years + 02 years), subject to service requirement, performance, medical eligibility and willingness of candidates. Officers joining under these schemes will not be eligible for grant of permanent commission.
(b) Permanent Commission. Candidates inducted under PC will continue to serve till the age of superannuation.
Training:
Candidates will be inducted as officers in the rank of Sub Lt. The training is tentatively scheduled to commence in end Dec 2019 at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala. Full pay and allowances are admissible to the officers whilst under training.
(a) Pilot Entry. Pilot candidates will undergo 22 weeks of Naval Orientation Course (NOC) at INA, Ezhimala followed by Stage I and Stage II flying training at the Air Force/Naval Establishment. On successful completion of training, the candidates will be awarded wings. The candidates will be entitled for flying pay and allowances only after award of wings.
(b) Observer Entry. Observer candidates will undergo 22 weeks of Naval orientation course (NOC) at INA, Ezhimala, Kerala. On completion of NOC the candidates will undergo SLT(X) Tech course followed by ab-initio training at Observer School. On successful completion of training at Observer School, the candidates will be awarded Observer wings. The candidates will be entitled for flying pay and allowances only after award of wings.
(c) Logistics/Education Entries. Candidates will undergo 22 weeks of Naval Orientation Course at the INA, Ezhimala, Kerala followed by professional training at Air Force Academy and at various Naval Training Establishments/Units/Ships
Note: -
(i) Only unmarried candidates are eligible to undergo training. A candidate who is found to be married or marries while under training will be discharged and shall be liable to refund full pay and allowances drawn by him/her and other expenditure incurred on the candidate by the Government.
(ii) Candidates will be on probation for a period of two years which will commence from the grant of the rank of Sub Lt and will terminate after two years or on completion of their initial training (whichever is later). During probation they are liable to be discharged if their performance is unsatisfactory on professional/ medical/disciplinary grounds.
(iii) If an officer voluntarily withdraws from initial/ professional training, or resigns during the probationary period, he/she shall be required to refund the cost of training in whole or in part, as may be determined by the Govt, and all money received by him/her as pay and allowances from the Govt. together with the interest on the said money calculated at the rate enforced for Govt. loans.
(iv) Candidates who fail to qualify the flying training (Pilots / Observers) will not be retained in service.

Executive General Service (GS):
As an Executive (General Service) Officer, you would be at the helm of affairs in ships. Executive officers are leaders of men, strategists of modern warfare and ambassadors of our country when in foreign waters. Modern warships are highly evolved fighting machines needing capable and decisive leaders to operate them. A glorious career would see many highpoints and chief among them would be Command at sea.
Work Environment (W.E.):
As an Executive Officer, you will be a vital part of the complex system that manages the ship and also uses the ship as an instrument of tactical warfare. You will learn to have a good understanding of your ship’s capabilities and limitations and be able to turn them to your advantage when face-to-face with the enemy. It is for this reason that an Executive Officer alone can aspire for the command of a naval warship. The Executive officers gets opportunities to participate in all facets of naval operations onboard a warship. The Hydrographic Officer operates from highly sophisticated platforms to conduct surveys at sea. For those with an aspiration to fly in the skies over the challenging environment of the sea, the Navy needs Pilots for its Naval Air Arm. Naval aircraft search, locate and attack enemy ships, submarines and aircraft whilst providing a defensive cover to our assets at sea.
Work Environment (W.E.):
Naval Pilots operate fighter aircraft and helicopters from aircraft carriers and ships at sea as well as maritime reconnaissance aircraft from ashore.
Training & Advancement (TRN):
Pilot candidates will undergo 22 weeks of Naval Orientation Course at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, followed by Stage I and Stage II flying training at the Air Force Academy/Naval Establishment /Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Udaan Academy (IGRUA). On successful completion of training, the candidates will be awarded the coveted ‘Wings’.

Observer:
For those with a yearning for the skies, the Navy needs Observers who act as airborne coordinators of maritime warfare. Observer officers operate various state-of-the-art equipment including sonics, radars, sonars and communication equipment. The Observer officer gets an opportunity to participate in all facets of naval operations onboard the “eyes of the Fleet: the maritime patrol aircraft or ship-borne multi-role helicopters”. You would also be responsible forfiring weapons, as and when the need arises.

Logistics Officer:
Logistics Officer is involved in planning, forecasting and execution of the budget and inventory management of spare parts and other items required for day-to-day running of ships. He is also entrusted with meeting the food and clothing requirements of the personnel of the Indian Navy, which plays a crucial role in maintaining their morale. He is trained by the Navy in the field of Inventory Management, Finance, Supply Chain Management and Information Technology. You as a Logistics Officer would be responsible for management of Integrated Supply chain activities, using cutting edge technologies and suitable managerial skills. Naval Armament Inspection:
Naval Armament Inspection (NAI) Officers are the specialist officers responsible for Inspection & Quality Assurance (QA), in-house R&D, life extension and life assessment to ensure safety, serviceability and functional reliability of Armaments in the inventory of Indian Navy.
Work Environment (W.E.):
As a Naval Armament Inspection officer, you will be responsible for inspection of the armament supplied to the Navy by various agencies. You will also be responsible for in-house Research & Development, leading to indigenization and will have to ensure the quality, safety and reliability of Naval Armament and Stores procured by the Navy.
NAI officers also provide QA coverage during production/ acceptance at various Ordnance factories, PSUs, Private Industry and at foreign OEM premises. The NAI officers associate with various DRDO labs during the development phase of various armament stores.

Information Technology (IT)
Indian Navy provides excellent career opportunities in the field of IT. Judge Advocate General:
The Judge Advocate General (JAG) Department is the legal arm of the Indian Naval Service. A Judge Advocate is appointed under Section 168 of the Navy Act, 1957 and is deemed to be a Judicial Officer. The primary role of a JAG officer is to deliver independent, operationally-focused, solution-oriented legal advice and services across the full spectrum of naval law towards supporting naval operations and a sound naval administration. The JAG Department is the cornerstone of the law of the Indian Navy, professionally contributing to a disciplined force, with targeted legal solutions in the performance of legal and judicial duties.
The JAG Department thus, plays a very crucial role by effectively discharging its responsibilities in administering and supervising the naval justice system, which is inextricably linked to maintaining good order and discipline and promotes confidence in the Naval justice system.
Work Environment (W.E.):
Primary duty of the officer in the Dept. Of JAG(Navy) is to attend Courts Martial as Trial Judge Advocate wherein he decides all questions of law arising in the course of trial. An officer in this Department is expected to render advice and assistance to ships/ establishments / units of the Indian Navy in dealing with disciplinary matters, monitoring court cases and also in pursuing litigation in the various courts at various levels. The duties of a legal officer include providing advice on various segments of diverse laws, such as – Naval Law, Rules, Regulations and Orders of the Navy, International Maritime Law, Salvage, Privacy, Contract Law, Criminal and civil Law, Personal Law and others.

Submarine Technical Officer:
The adventure of venturing deep into the ocean is unique. As a Submarine Engineer officer, you will be tasked with the requirements of maintaining high-end propulsion systems, including nuclear and diesels, along with associated systems. Work Environment (W.E.):
As a Submarine Technical Officer, you will be responsible to run & maintain modern submarines and its weapon systems.
Training & Advancement (TRN):
Candidates selected for Submarine specialization, will be inducted as officers in the rank of Sub Lieutenant and undergo 22 weeks Naval orientation course at the Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala followed by professional training in other Naval Training Establishments/ships. On completion of training the candidates will have to pass Submarine Qualifying Board.

Naval Architects:
Naval Architects specialise in warship and submarine construction. A Naval Architect is involved in design, quality control, repair and construction of Naval vessels. In no other career, an Architecture Officer gets exposed to such wide developments. The Naval Architecture Cadre offers excellent opportunities to keep abreast of advancements in ship-building technology.
Work Environment (W.E.):
As an officer in the Naval Architect Cadre, your assigned duties would encompass a wide spectrum, including design of warships and submarines, overseeing of construction at various shipyards, platform trials at sea, appointment onboard warships as well as refit and operational support for ships and submarines, including dry docking. Also, there is an enriching exposure to current and future technologies.
Training & Advancement (TRN):
