Indian Defence Services:

Indian Defence Services is one of largest defence services of the world. Indian Defence line in segregated in several forces according to requirement and the services provided by them. It consists of Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Border Security Forces (BSF), CRPF, Police etc. and many other.

As we know; to strengthening these forces there is always need of devoted person to serve the nation by their services; there is always need of all kind of personals from professionals to worker or helper. In defence service there is great opportunity for everyone even you are a Doctor or engineer, Lawyer or graduate, fresh aspirant who pass Intermediate course (10+2) or who just pass Matriculate course.

Indian Defences Forces mainly consists of Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. There are many ways by which an Indian citizen can join these services or force. Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) invites personal through NDA, CDS for these forces. Indian Army directly invite person through AFCAT and many other exams; similarly, Indian Navy invites directly through INET.

Here we provide you the brief details of these tests / exams.

NDA

1. NDA:

The National Defence Academy & Naval Academy (NDA) exam is conducted by UPSC for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA. This exam is a gateway for candidates looking forward to joining Defence Forces including Army, Navy and Air Force. This is a national level exam conducted twice a year: NDA I and NDA II to help candidates make a career in Defence services.

National Defence Academy & Naval Academy Examination a two-step process where candidates first need to take the exam and then qualify the SSB interview conducted by the Service Selection Board, followed by medical test and final preparation of merit list by UPSC.

Educational Qualifications:

  1. For Army Wing of National Defence Academy: —12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
  2. For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy: —12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

Age - Age of candidate is between 16 ½ to 19 ½ years (at the time of commencement of course).

CDS

2. CDS:

UPSC gives you opportunity to join it through CDS. CDS Exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission twice in a year for recruitment to the Army, Navy and Air force.

 “CDS” is an acronym for “Combined Defence Services” Examination. The Combined Defence Services Examination (CDSE) is conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment into the Indian Military Academy (IMA), officers Training Academy (OTA), Indian Naval Academy (INA) and Air Force Academy (AFA). it is a Two-Step process where candidates first need to take the exam and then qualify the SSB interview conducted by the Service Selection Board.

Educational Qualifications:

(i) For I.M.A.(Army) and Officers’ Training Academy (OTA), Chennai — Degree of a recognised University or equivalent.

 (ii) For Air Force Academy—Degree of a recognised University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.

(iii) For Indian Naval Academy (Navy)—Degree in Engineering from a recognised University/Institution.

Age, Gender, Marital Status:

(i) Indian Military Academy (IMA-army) —Unmarried male candidates aged between 19 – 24 years (at the time of commencement of course).

(ii) Indian Naval Academy (INA)—Unmarried male candidates aged between 19 – 24 years (at the time of commencement of course.

(iii) For Air Force Academy (AFA)— 20 to 24 years.

AFCAT

3. AFCAT:

“AFCAT” is an acronym for “AIR FORCE COMMON ADMISSION TEST” Examination. The AIR FORCE COMMON ADMISSION (AFCAT) is conducted twice a year by the Indian Air force for recruitment Officers in Flying and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) branches. it is a Two-Step (main) process where candidates first need to take the exam and then qualify the AFSB interview conducted by AFSB (Air Force Selection Board).

Educational Qualifications:

Flying Branch: Candidates should have mandatorily passed with a mini of 60% marks each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level and

(a) Graduation with minimum three years degree course in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. OR

(b) BE/B Tech degree (Four years course) from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. OR

(c) Candidates who have cleared Section A & B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Ground Duty (Technical) Branch: Candidates with a minimum of 60% marks each in Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level and a minimum of four years degree graduation/integrated post-graduation qualification in Engineering/ Technology from recognized University

Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branches: Graduate Degree (Minimum three years degree course) in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent.

Age:

I. Flying Branch through AFCAT: 20 to 24 years. Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot License issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable upto 26 years.

II. Ground Duty (Technical & Non-Technical) Branch: 20 to 26 years.

INET

4.INET:

Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) is the officers’ entry under the control of IHQ MoD (Navy)/ DMPR and caters for both Permanent Commission (PC) and Short Service Commission (SSC). The INET will be conducted twice a year.

Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET), the first edition of which was held in September 2019. Candidates that clear this test will serve as short service commission (SSC) officers in the navy after successfully completing their training.

The test similar to the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) can be written by unmarried Indian citizens who are in their final year of graduation or are fresh graduates. Aspirants who clear the test will be trained to serve in the navy at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala (Kerala).

Educational Qualification:

BE/ B.Tech. from AICTE recognized institute / university with minimum 60% marks. (Candidate must have 60% aggregate marks in class X and XII and minimum 60% marks in English in class X or class XII).

Airmen in Group ‘X’ and Group ‘Y’

5. Airmen in Group ‘X’ and Group ‘Y’:

Indian Air Force invites application from Unmarried Male Indian Citizens (citizens of Nepal are also eligible) for selection test to join as Airmen in Group ‘X’ Trades and Group ‘Y’ Trades. The Airman cadre provides opportunities for men (only men) with Matriculate, 10+2 /Intermediate, Graduates, Diploma holders and Postgraduates qualification.

Selection Tests for enrolment as an Airman are conducted in two ways i.e., STAR and Rally.

Educational Qualification:

Group “X” (Except Education Instructor trade): Passed Intermediate/10+2/ Equivalent examination with Mathematics, Physics and English from an Education Board listed as COBSE member with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English. OR

Three years Diploma Course in Engineering in any stream. The candidate should have completed the course from a Government recognized Polytechnic institute with 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English in diploma (or in Intermediate/Matriculation, if English is not a subject in Diploma Course).

Group “X” - Education Instructor trade: BA with English as one of the subjects or B.Sc with Physics/ Psychology/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ IT/ Computer Science/ Statistics as one of the subjects or BCA with minimum 50% marks. In addition, B.Ed degree with minimum 50% marks from a government recognized institute, is mandatory.

Group “Y” Trades: Passed Intermediate / 10+2 / Equivalent Examination in any stream/subjects approved by Central / State Education Boards listed as COBSE member with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.

Age :17 - 25 Years (Varies according to Trads)

Indian Navy B.Tech Entry Scheme - through JEE Main

6. Indian Navy B.Tech Entry Scheme - through JEE Main:

Indian Navy 10+2 (B.Tech) Entry Scheme (Permanent Commission), Indian Navy issued Notification for Indian Navy 10+2 (B. Tech) Cadet Entry Scheme (Permanent Commission) and invites online applications from unmarried male candidates to join the prestigious Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kerala through JEE Main Score.

Educational Qualification: Passed Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 Pattern) or its equivalent examination from any Board with at least 70% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) and at least 50% marks in English (either in Class X or Class XII). 

Age Limit: Born between 17 to 20 Years.

7. Indian Navy Recruitment for PC and SSC:

Indian Army 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme Course

8. Indian Army 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme Course:

Indian Army invites applications from unmarried male Candidates who have passed 10+2 examination with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) subjects and fulfill the eligibility conditions, for the Technical Entry Scheme (TES) Course for the grant of Permanent Commission (PC) in the Army.

Indian Army invites applications for Technical Entry Scheme Course – TES, twice in a year for two entry session in January and July.

For January Session application invites in May-June of preceding year.

For July Session application invites in Oct-Nov of preceding year.

Educational Qualification: Only those candidates who have passed 10+2 Examination or its equivalent with a minimum aggregate of 70% marks in (PMC) Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from recognized education boards are eligible to apply for this entry. Eligibility condition for calculating PCM percentage of various state /central boards will be based on marks obtained in Class XII only.

9. Indian Army Short Service Commission (SSC):

Applications are invited from eligible unmarried Male and unmarried Female Engineering Graduates and also from Widows of Defence Personnel who died in harness for grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Indian Army. Course will commence at Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Educational Qualification: Candidates who have passed the requisite Engineering Degree course or are in the final year of Engineering Degree course are eligible to apply.

10. Army Recruitment Rally - JCO / OR:

11. Technical Graduate Course - TGC - IMA:

Indian Navy - University Entry Scheme-UES

12. Indian Navy - University Entry Scheme-UES:

Indian Navy invites applications from unmarried candidates who fulfil eligibility condition of Nationality as laid down by Government of India for entry as Short Service Commission (SSC) officers in Executive (IT) and Technical Branches of the Indian Navy under University Entry Scheme (UES).

Education Criteria: Applicant should be in the final year (regular BE/B.Tech or integrated degree course) in an AICTE recognised university with one of the following educational qualifications and should have obtained a minimum of 60 % aggregate marks till pre final year (till V semester of regular BE/B.Tech and VII Semester of 5-year integrated degree course).
